Founded in 1927, Lahinch Golf Club is one of the oldest golf clubs in Ireland and a wonderful place to begin a customized golf tour of Ireland. The Old Course is designed by Tom Morris/Alister MacKenzie and is the St Andrews of Ireland. It looks out on the Atlantic Ocean and is taxing to play when blustery winds come in off the Atlantic. The Old Course exudes a feeling that cannot be compared anywhere on earth. With its’ beautiful, contoured fairways that roll down through grassy dunes, no wonder it is consistently rated among the top courses and given accolades in Golfing Magazine (which named it Irish golf links winner 2015).
Lahinch’s 5th hole is one of the most talked about golf holes in the world, simply Known as “The Dell”. It is an original design from Tom Morris. The reason that the Dell is so famous from the Tee, is that the hole is entirely blind. This tough, 154 yards, par 3 is surrounded on all sides by massive, natural sand dunes. Starting off, all the player can see are dunes and a white direction rock, which provides the line for locating the hole. If that wasn’t a challenge enough, the hole plays directly into the wind and towards the sea. Your personal Irish driver will be waiting for you and ready to transfer in luxury back to your accommodation after a long day on the golf links.
The Ballybunion Golf Club has the most formidable sand dunes in the country. There’s a thrilling challenge in store for you here, a supreme test of golf. The holes can, at the best of time, be capricious with a gentle breeze. This seaside town of Ballybunion provides an ideal setting for a golf vacation in Ireland.
The original Old Course is classed as one of the best golf courses in the world. New players are greeted by the first seven holes that are a kindly introduction, after that the going increases in difficulty and can be quite challenging, playing along the course you see the man-made and natural features like narrow, contoured fairways and rolling dunes. It becomes obvious why it is a luxury golf vacation spot in Ireland and ranked as one of the best in the world.
For a truly amazing Golf Trip in Ireland Doonbeg is the place to go. It was opened in 2002 and was considered an ideal location for the Golf links. It was designed by two-time British Open Champion Greg Norman and stretches to 1.5 miles of beach and sand dunes. Doonbeg Golf Club was purchased by President Donald Trump in 2014 for an estimated €15 million. The President aimed to turn Doonbeg into a “truly iconic” golfing resort.
Here’s what a golfer can expect at the Trump Golf Course, Doonbeg; the Golf Course is a 72 par course that plays 9 in and 9 out. The speed and variation of wind in this open play can be the challenge that awaits here. This is definitely a course in which all clubs will be used! The talking point of this course is the 14th and a wedge is the only real choice here on this lovely par 3, if lucky with the wind direction it can be a shot of a lifetime to get to the green in one. You will relax and play golf be at ease knowing that the non-golfer’s will be sight-seeing for the day with their Irish private driver who will escort them back for the evening time when everyone can catch up on the days events.
Extending over 2km out onto the Atlantic, the Old Head Golf Course rests on 7220 acres of land. It’s located in Kinsale, Co. Cork, famously known as the as the nearest point to where the Lusitania was sunk by a German torpedo during World War 1, in 1915.
The course was originally designed as a walking course and though challenging this is still encouraged today. The dramatics surroundings of clifftops, makes this a very memorable golf tour in Ireland. It has been labelled ‘one of the most beautiful Golf Courses in the world’ by the PGA advisory board. Each hole gives astonishing panoramic views of the Atlantic and give the feeling of playing on the gigantic sea. It is a much sought-after golf experience by players throughout the world.
The Sign of a good golf course are the holes that stick in your mind. Tralee Golf Club was his first Irish adventure into golf architecture and was officially opened to critical acclaim in 1984. Tralee, is a rugged and exhilarating masterpiece and Palmer, let nature do most of the work.
