Lahinch Golf Course
Founded in 1927 in county Clare, Lahinch Golf Club is one of the oldest golf clubs in Ireland and a wonderful place to begin a customized golf tour of Ireland. The Old Course is designed by Tom Morris/Alister MacKenzie and out onto the Atlantic Ocean. The Old Course exudes a feeling that cannot be compared anywhere on earth, with its’ beautiful, contoured fairways that roll down through grassy dunes. Lahinch’s 5th hole is one of the most talked about golf holes in the world, known as “The Dell”, famous because from the Tee the hole is entirely blind. This tough, 154 yards, par 3 is surrounded on all sides by massive, natural sand dunes. Starting off, all the player can see are dunes and a white direction rock, which provides the line for locating the hole. If that wasn’t a challenge enough, the hole plays directly into the wind and towards the sea. Your personal Irish driver will be waiting for you and ready to transfer in luxury back to your accommodation after a long day on the golf links.
Adare Golf Course
Found in county Limerick the Adare golf course is part of the luxurious Adare Manor grounds. It was chosen to host the Ryder Cup 2026, this is no surprise as it is the number one Golf Course in Ireland. World-renowned golf course architect Tom Fazio assisted with the new improvements during it’s massive renovations. It re-opened again in 2017 following the multi-million euro investment by owner, JP McManus. The famous JP McManus Pro Am is scheduled to go ahead in 2021, if you include this as part of your vacation you will have an Irish golf trip of a lifetime!
Doonbeg Golf Club
As part of your Southwest golf tour of Ireland, Doonbeg in county Clare is the place to go. It was opened in 2002 and was considered an ideal location for the Golf links. It was designed by two-time British Open Champion Greg Norman and stretches to 1.5 miles of beach and sand dunes. Doonbeg Golf Club and Hotel was purchased by Donald Trump in 2014 for an estimated €15 million. The Golf Course is a 72 par course that has a variation of wind in this open play and can be the challenge. The talking point of this course is the 14th, if lucky with the wind direction it can be a shot of a lifetime to get to the green in one.
Old Head Golf Course
Extending over 2km out onto the Atlantic, the Old Head Golf Course rests on 7220 acres of land. It’s located in Kinsale, Co. Cork, famously known as the as the nearest point to where the Lusitania was sunk by a German torpedo during World War 1, in 1915. The holes can, at the best of time, be capricious with a gentle breeze. This seaside town of Ballybunion provides an ideal setting for a golf vacation in Ireland. The original Old Course is classed as one of the best golf courses in the world. New players are greeted by the first seven holes that are a kindly introduction, after that it increases in difficulty and can be quite challenging, playing along the course you see the man-made and natural features like narrow, contoured fairways and rolling dunes.
Tralee Golf Club
The Sign of a good golf course are the holes that stick in your mind. Tralee Golf Club in county Kerry is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean with castles, distant islands and towering mountains. Tralee, is a rugged and exhilarating masterpiece and Palmer, the architect, let nature do most of the work. The majority of the elevated holes grip tightly to the coast land, giving way to some spectacular scenery from the cliff tops right over Tralee Bay. There are very few links that grab your attention the moment you see them; Tralee golf course is one of those few captivating courses.
Killarney Golf Club
The Kerry golf course was formed in 1937 to build a course at its present location. There are 3 courses in Killarney Golf Club: Killeen, Mahony’s Point and Lackabane. Killeen, re-designed as a more demanding course in 2006, played host to the Irish Open in 2010 and 2011. The course offers both spectacular lakeside scenery and challenging golf to players of all levels, with water features on nearly every hole.
