The Adare Golf Pro-Am was created by JP McManus. The famous, billionaire Limerick man has contributed millions of his fortune towards local charities through the years and is very much a loved figure in Limerick and throughout Ireland. The 2 day Pro-Am has to date raised over €100 million for good causes and through McManus has introduced luxury golf to Ireland. The tournament has attracted many famous professional golfers from Europe and the USA, but in recent years it has also attracted the Hollywood elite; movie and TV stars.

The Ryder Cup
The great news came last year that the luxury Adare Manor was chosen to host the Ryder Cup in 2026. The famous golf tournament has competing teams from the USA and Europe, make it an exciting balance of the best golfers in the world. Why might Adare Manor have been chosen? The newly renovated Manor opened it’s doors again in November 2017 and was named Best Hotel in the World in 2018. They beat luxury hotels in the UK, France, Mauritius and Morocco for the title. It is found in the picturesque village of Adare in county Limerick and truly is part of a Luxury Tour of Ireland.
Lahinch Golf Course | Irish Golf Vacations
South of Ireland Championship
If the major tournaments are already booked out then it’s definitely worthwhile attending our local championships. Lahinch hosts the annual South of Ireland Championship, an amateur golf tournament, since 1895. It is found in County Clare and is a popular surfing resort with its’ world-famous Golf Links Course. It has two 18-hole courses, the Old Course and the Castle Course. It’s signature hole ‘The Dell’ is famously known all around for it’s tough play, it is a 150 yards par 3. This Golf Course is set on the edge of the beach with surrounding sea views, it’s no great surprise that Golfing Magazine named it Irish golf links winner 2015.

The Irish Open Golf Tournament
It is the only European tour event played in Ireland and is ready to continue in 2021 at the famous Mount Juliet Estate in Kilkenny. All Irish pro’s play this tournament but also many USA professional golfers join their European challengers. Irish golf courses have proven to be challenging for the top golfers and also are set in some of the most beautiful scenery in the world. The Irish Open was first played in 1927 and is currently sponsored by Dubai Duty Free with a prize fund of over a million euro.
Old Head Golf Course | Ireland Golf Vacations
The Old Head
We have to mention the Old Head Golf Course as it was considered this year to host the Irish Open when the tournament was postponed from May. It did go ahead in September in Glagorm Castle in Co.Antrim when Mount Juliet could no longer host it. The Old Head Golf Course extends over 2km out onto the Atlantic and rests on 7220 acres of land. It’s located in Kinsale, Co. Cork, famously known as the as the nearest point to where the Lusitania was sunk by a German torpedo during World War 1, in 1915. The dramatic clifftops that surround the course, make this a very memorable golf tour in Ireland. It has been labelled ‘one of the most beautiful Golf Courses in the world’ by the PGA advisory board. As one of Mike Ryan’s favourite golf courses, we can only hope it will be considered for future tournaments.
